Privacy Policy
Effective October 19, 2026
Daydream is made by Friends for Humanity, Inc. (“Friends for Humanity,” “we,” “us”). This policy covers the Daydream apps and website. It explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. Daydream is intended for people 13 and older. Our Terms of Service also apply. Questions? Email support@daydream.world.
Daydream is not a private diary. Anything you create in Daydream, including stories you don’t publish, can be seen by us. We may also use it, and the scenes generated from it, to promote Daydream. Don’t put anything in Daydream that you want to keep private.
Information you give us
- Account details. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive an account identifier. Depending on the provider and your choices, we may also receive your name, email address, and (from Google) profile photo. Apple lets you hide your email address.
- Profile. Your display name, handle, bio, and favorite genres. Earlier versions of the app also asked for your age, and we keep the age you gave.
- Stories and play. The actions, dialogue, and choices you write; the stories, characters, lorebooks, and references you author; and images and documents you upload, such as character reference photos you pick from your photo library. It also includes searches for public reference photos, comments, likes, follows, and reports you submit.
- Purchases. Payments go through the App Store or Google Play. We receive purchase and subscription details, such as the product, price, dates, and status, through our purchase provider, RevenueCat. We never receive your card details. We keep your gem and coin balances and spending history.
- Communications. What you send when you email us, and your answer if you tell us how you heard about Daydream.
Information collected automatically
- Usage. The screens you view, the features you use, your story choices and playback, and session timing. Amplitude collects this for us.
- Session replay. Amplitude also records app sessions (screens, taps, and on-screen activity) so we can understand and fix problems. Replays can include what’s on screen, including story text you type. Sensitive fields such as passwords and email addresses are masked.
- Device and diagnostics. Device model, operating system, app version, language, and IP address. Also crash reports (collected through Sentry) and performance and server logs. If you allow notifications, we also collect a push notification token.
Daydream does not use your device’s advertising identifier or track you across other companies’ apps and websites. It does not access your microphone, camera, location, or contacts. It accesses photos only when you choose an image to upload.
How we use information
- To run Daydream: sign you in, save your progress, generate your stories, and power published stories, profiles, and social features.
- To handle purchases, balances, and memberships, including returning gems or coins when a generation fails.
- To keep Daydream safe: review reports, enforce our Terms, and prevent fraud and abuse.
- To understand, debug, and improve Daydream’s quality and speed.
- To develop and train AI models, using your content and the scenes generated from it.
- To promote Daydream: we may feature your stories and the scenes generated from them, including unpublished ones, in ads, social media, and other marketing, and credit you by your name or handle.
- To communicate with you: reply to support requests, send notifications you allow, and send service notices.
- To comply with the law and protect rights and safety.
AI processing
Daydream creates stories with AI. To generate a scene, we send AI model providers what that request needs: your action, the story so far, its characters, and any reference images. They return text, images, video, or audio. These providers process the data for us under their terms with us. We record AI requests and responses, including the prompts and content sent, to debug failures and improve story quality.
How we share information
With other Daydream users. Other users can see your profile: name, handle, bio, photo, genres, follower and following counts, and how many stories you’ve published. They can also see stories you publish, your comments and likes, and who you follow. Scenes you create while playing a published story become part of that story’s shared story tree, where other players can watch and continue them. Unpublished stories and drafts aren’t listed for other players, but they aren’t confidential.
With the public, in our marketing. We may publish your content, the scenes generated from it, and your name or handle in ads, on social media, and in other promotion of Daydream. We don’t do this with the content, name, or likeness of a user we know is under 18 without consent from their parent or guardian.
With service providers who work on our behalf:
- Hosting, storage, and delivery: Convex, Cloudflare, Vercel, and Expo (app updates and push notifications).
- AI text generation: DeepSeek, Surplus Intelligence (which serves Google’s Gemini models), OpenRouter (which routes requests to model providers such as Anthropic and OpenAI), and Experiential Labs.
- AI image, video, and audio: fal.ai, Pruna, OpenAI image models through OpenRouter, and Cloudflare Workers AI (transcribing the audio of generated scenes).
- Reference image search: Serper, when an author searches public photos of a public figure.
- Sign-in and purchases: Apple, Google, and RevenueCat.
- Analytics and diagnostics: Amplitude (analytics and session replay), Sentry (crash reports), Langfuse (AI request tracing), and Axiom (logs).
For legal and safety reasons. We may share information when the law requires it. We may also share it to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or Friends for Humanity. That includes reporting child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy. We may also share information when you ask us to, or with your consent.
We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is open. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete account, or by emailing us. See Delete Account for both options. In-app deletion promptly removes the following from Daydream’s backend: your profile, profile photo, unpublished stories and drafts, uploads, comments, likes, follows, searches, and notification tokens. We verify email requests by hand and aim to complete them within 30 days.
Some information remains after deletion:
- Stories you published, and the scenes players created in them, remain so other players’ stories keep working. Email us if you want a published story taken down.
- Ads and marketing we have already made with your content may keep running.
- Purchase records are kept for accounting and fraud prevention, no longer linked to your profile. We keep store billing notifications for 90 days.
- We keep records we need for security, legal, or moderation reasons.
- Copies held by our service providers, including analytics and session replay (Amplitude), AI request traces (Langfuse), and purchase records (RevenueCat), may remain. Those providers keep them on their own retention schedules. Email us if you want us to ask them to delete your data too.
- Backups held by our providers are deleted on their own schedules.
Deleting your account does not cancel a membership. Cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
Your rights and choices
You can edit your profile in the app. You can turn off notifications and photo access in your device settings. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct or delete it.
- Receive a portable copy.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent.
To make a request, email support@daydream.world. We’ll verify your request before acting on it, and we won’t discriminate against you for exercising your rights. California residents may use an authorized agent. If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, we rely on one of these legal bases:
- Performing our contract with you (running Daydream).
- Our legitimate interests (safety, analytics, and improving Daydream).
- Your consent (where we ask for it).
- Legal obligations.
You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
International transfers
Friends for Humanity is based in the United States. Your information may be processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate, which may have different data protection laws than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, though. Generated media and uploads are stored at long, hard-to-guess web addresses. Anyone who has one of those addresses can open the file, so share them with care.
Children and teens
Daydream is intended for people 13 and older. Users under 18 need a parent’s or guardian’s permission. We won’t use the content, name, or likeness of a user we know is under 18 in ads or marketing without a parent’s or guardian’s consent. Daydream is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Daydream changes. We’ll update the effective date above. For material changes, we’ll give notice in the app or by other reasonable means.
